Candidate for Finance Officer

Profile

Name: Cham Qing Hui
Background:
Member, Cadet Inspector – Tampines Secondary School
Honorary Officer – Coral Secondary School

Message
Previously as an instructor, I only need to deal with training-related issues. It wasn’t until FOC ‘07 that I have a chance to take on the role of Finance Officer. Working along with fellow officers during the preparation stage definitely did enough to arouse my interest, and hence I hope to run for the post of Finance Officer, NTU-NPCC unit.

I would do my utmost to maintain, if not improve the current financial procedures in our unit. In addition, I hope to do more for fellow officers who have to inconveniently submit quarterly claim personally and also to simplify the procedures for clearing probation for the next batch of Honorary Officers. Lastly, I shall also make it my task to send reminders before the submission deadline.

Of course, it’s easier said than done therefore I appeal to fellow officers that you give me an opportunity to take on the challenge. Thank You.

Message
As a member of the CSSP sub-committee, I was involved in the events as mentioned. These activities allowed me to gain a deeper understanding and also a broader picture of what Community Safety and Security Project (CSSP) is all about.

CSSP is still at its infant stage and it’s only by recruiting like-minded volunteers, as well as retaining our current group of enthusiastic that we would be able to move to a new height.

I hope to achieve this goal by two ways. Firstly, it is to organise a series of exhibition and/ or seminars to attract new volunteers from the freshmen population. Secondly, it is to involve the seniors in planning/ conduct of workshops and student-patrol to sustain their interest and also to share their experience.

I appeal to fellow officers that you give me an opportunity to take on the challenge. Thank You.

Message
In my opinion, the Publicity & Publications (P&P) Sub-Committee is an important committee in every club or unit which all the more, should be well-managed. How others perceive the unit will also highly depend on this committee as it is in-charge of preparing publicity materials, for example newsletter and also maintaining the unit's website. These are sources in which the general public depend on when gathering information about it.

To begin with, do allow me to share with you some past experiences which I gained in the area of P&P. During my Secondary School and Junior College days, I was in the Executive Committee for 3 CCAs. Various projects I have taken up include setting up of websites, organisating the booth at the annual CCA Recruitment Fairs and co-ordinating the publication of quarterly newsletters.

Currently, I am in the NTU NPCC P&P Sub-Committee and have taken on various tasks, especially in the area of photo-taking at a number of events like HO Night and the recent Leadership and Mentoring Skills Course. I make it a point to upload these photos taken to the website at the end of the day as I believe participants are as anxious to view the photos. In my unit, I am also tasked in the area of photo-taking at the weekly unit training sessions and field trips. I have set up a multiply website for my unit and is also in-charge of updating and maintaining it. I have also been appointed to oversee the publication matters in my unit which includes the updating of articles on the notice board and co-ordinating the unit quarterly newsletter.

If I am elected into office as the P&P Officer, my first goal will be to get the NTU NPCC website up and running. Our unit website also has to be updated regularly so as to keep our members and the public posted on our upcoming or past activities. As mentioned previously, the website is one of our main sources of information for people who would like to know more about us. Next up will be the upcoming Recruitment Fair scheduled on 13th & 14th August 07. This is also one important event which we should tap on, to bring in freshmen who were ex-CIs, ex-cadets or even new talent to the Corps and our Unit.

I see the role of the P&P Officer as one of the more challenging appointments and I am ready and looking forward to take up the challenge. I hope to be given the opportunity to take up the role as the P&P Officer for our unit.

Thank you.

Message

I first joined NPCC during my Secondary School days mainly attracted not by the uniform but the espirit de corp between the cadets I saw. Through my years there, I learnt a great deal and made many friendships that bind till today. No politicking, no backstabbing, just pure friendships at that age. The time I spent in NPCC left an imprint in my life.

Thus when I entered NTU, I seek out NPCC’s booth during the CCA fair and took a look at NTU NPCC. I signed up for it and before long, I attended the 30th HOBTC and re-entered life in Uniform.

I chose to join PnP after the course mainly because I am more comfortable doing writings and publicity materials. I wanted to learn website building, and hence joined Brendan and be an Assistant Webmaster to him.

As I proceed on in the years ahead in NTU NPCC, I wish to grow as a person and learn as much new things as I possibly can, leaving my own imprints on the lives of many other young minds as a HO just as the ones before me.

Message

I am P/H/INSP Cai Ruibao currently in the training committee. The unit I am serving now is Yusof Ishak Secondary School. I am now running for the post of training officer of NTUNPCC and I wish I will get the post. I believe that my background as a cadet and CI gave me a strong foundation in terms of hard skills like drills, campcraft, and etc. I am also competent and experienced in training aspects like planning and organizing camps and courses as I have done many projects of such. This makes me a suitable candidate for a training officer.
My vision for NTUNPCC for the coming new work year is to organize an eventful and purposeful HOBTC and also to organize some enrichment courses like first aid, games leadership, etc which is to aim to equip HOs with skills to carry out duties more efficiently to improve NTUNPCC and NPCC overall. I hereby ask for your support.

Election Speech

1. INTRODUCTION

Firstly I would like to welcome all officers to the 16th Annual General Meeting. Your presence is very much appreciated. I would like to apologize for being unable to attend this AGM since I’m having my PPCDL course.

I’m P/H/INSP Salmiyati, in short known as Salmi, running for the post of Training Officer in the nomination list.

I was a:
Cadet (1999 – 2002): Yuhua Secondary School
Cadet Inspector (2002 – 2006): Yuhua Secondary School
Honorary Officer (2006): Yuhua Secondary School

2. EVENTS PARTICIPATED IN TRAINING LEVEL

Ever since I was an honorary officer in Dec 22, I have participated and organized various activities in HQ, unit and also NTU NPCC.
Some of them are:

· Organized NPCC Annual Day Parade 2007
· Help in the running of .22 revolver shooting competition 2007 for all secondary units.
· Safety officer for the 72nd CIBTC 2007.
· Collating helpers for the Police Day Parade 2007
· Organized Unit’s Speech Day Parade 2007

3. EXPECTATION

Being active in both HQ level and units, I have gained experience in both organizing and running of training activities.

It provides me learning opportunities in management and organization. This is also where close friendships and strong bonds are forged in the NPCC community, where I met many opportunities to take on leadership roles, learn to take on challenges and make a difference.

The experience gained in organizing of such HQ and unit events had helped me widen my horizons, preparing myself to cope with the ever changing demands of the fast evolving world.

As a training officer, my goal is to mould and well-prepare fellow officers to be ready to take up the roles as safety officers and also a mentor to cadets.

To achieve this, if I’m given the opportunity, I would like to slot in a First Aid course into the upcoming HOBTC. This is important as what I believe is, while bringing cadets for orienteering especially, each officer must have at least basic first aid skills since all the cadets safety is our responsibility.

Secondly, I ever thought of inviting Sec.4s cadet leaders to facilitate in the running of LMSC too. With these, they can share their experiences and problems face to other Sec.3s. Since Sec.4s has just went through and still fresh in mind, and they know what is lacking and what is needed to be a good leaders to the juniors, they can give motivation spirits and encouraging words to the future cadet leaders.

I appeal to fellow officers that you give me an opportunity to take on the challenge.

Thank You.
